Your web address and custom domains

Your default address, and pointing your own domain or a subdomain at it yourself.

On this page

When your site was set up it was given a working web address in the form yourbusiness.signalpagecms.com. It went live immediately, with HTTPS already configured. It works fine as your permanent address if you'd rather not use your own domain.

Pointing your own domain

Custom domains are part of the paid plans. On the Free plan, your site keeps its signalpagecms.com address.

If you own a domain like yourbusiness.com, you can connect it yourself from the Customer Portal, and there's a link to it at the bottom of your admin sidebar. No need to email us.

  1. In the portal, choose My main domain and enter the domain you want to use. You'll be shown the exact DNS records to create.
  2. At your domain registrar, add two A records, both pointing at the IP address the portal gives you:
    • one for the bare domain (often shown as @)
    • one for www
  3. Save, and leave the rest to us. We check for the records automatically and connect the domain, issuing its HTTPS certificate, as soon as they've propagated.

Why www needs its own A record

It's tempting to make www a CNAME pointing at your signalpagecms.com address. That won't work here: our server matches each request against the exact hostnames it has been configured for, rather than following where DNS resolves. www needs to be named explicitly, as its own A record, to be recognized and to get a certificate.

Keeping a website you already have

If your main domain already runs a website hosted somewhere else, you can connect a subdomain instead, such as go.yourbusiness.com. Your existing site stays exactly where it is, and this one runs alongside it. That suits landing pages for ad campaigns, or trying SignalPage before you move everything.

  1. In the portal, choose A subdomain and enter the full name, for example go.yourbusiness.com.
  2. At your registrar, add one A record for that name (usually entered as just go), pointing at the IP address the portal gives you. No www record is needed.

Nothing else in your DNS changes, so your main site and email carry on as before.

How long it takes

DNS changes usually take a few minutes, but can take up to 24 to 48 hours. Nothing breaks while you wait, because your existing address keeps serving the site the whole time, and it goes on working alongside your custom domain afterwards.

Already have an SSL certificate?

If you need to use a certificate you already own rather than the one issued automatically, the portal accepts an upload. Most people don't need this.
