Terms of Service
The agreement between you and HowToBreakIt Digital, the business that makes and runs SignalPage.
Last updated October 16, 2026
Who we are
SignalPage is made and run by HowToBreakIt Digital, a sole proprietorship owned by Steven Boutilier and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In these terms, "we" and "us" means HowToBreakIt Digital, and "you" means the person or business using SignalPage. You can reach us at steve@howtobreakit.ca.
Agreeing to these terms
By creating an account or using SignalPage, you agree to these terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Refund Policy. If you sign up on behalf of a business, you confirm you're allowed to agree for it. You need to be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
Your account
Use an email address you can receive mail at, and keep your passwords private. You're responsible for what happens under your account, including anyone you add as a user on your site. If you think someone has got into your account, tell us straight away.
Plans and billing
- Free costs nothing and needs no card. Its limits are listed on the pricing page.
- Starter beta access. While SignalPage is in private beta, Starter isn't for sale. Free accounts can apply for Starter beta access, which is free. See "The beta" below.
- Starter, once it's for sale, is billed monthly in advance, in US dollars, through our payment processor, Stripe. A new Starter signup starts with a 14-day free trial. Your card is collected at checkout and first charged when the trial ends, unless you cancel before then.
- Upgrading from Free to Starter has no trial, because Free already lets you try SignalPage. You're charged when you upgrade.
- Prices don't include taxes. Where we're required to charge tax, it's added at checkout.
- If we change a price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you.
The beta
SignalPage is in private beta. Features may change, be added, or be removed as we learn from how it's used, and you may run into bugs. Please tell us when you do.
Starter beta access is free. Before it ends, we'll email you at least 60 days' notice, and your access stays free for those 60 days. If you don't move to a paid plan by the end of the notice period, your site moves to the Free plan as described below. We can also end beta access early for a site that breaks these terms.
Cancelling
You can cancel Starter at any time from your customer portal. Your site keeps Starter until the end of the period you've paid for, then moves to Free. Refunds are covered in the Refund Policy.
Moving back to Free
When a Starter subscription or Starter beta access ends, whether you cancel, payment can't be collected, or the beta period is over, your site moves to the Free plan. Your content isn't deleted. Your custom domain is disconnected and the site is served from its signalpagecms.com address again, SignalPage branding returns to the footer, and Free's limits apply from then on.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe emails you and retries it over the following weeks. If every retry fails, the subscription is cancelled and your site moves to Free.
Your content
What you put on your site stays yours. You give us permission to store, copy, back up, and display it only as needed to run SignalPage for you. You're responsible for having the right to publish what you upload, and for your site meeting the laws that apply to it. You can export your content on every plan, including Free.
Your visitors
When people use your site, for example by sending a contact form, SignalPage stores that information for you. You decide what your site collects and you're responsible for telling your visitors how you use it, usually in your own privacy policy. How we handle it on your behalf is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
Don't use SignalPage to:
- publish anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
- distribute malware, run phishing pages, or send spam;
- harass, threaten, or exploit anyone, including any content that sexualises minors;
- try to get into other people's sites or accounts, or into our systems beyond your own site;
- put an unreasonable load on the service, for example with automated traffic or by using it as file storage.
If a site breaks these rules, we may remove the content or suspend the site. We'll tell you why, unless the law stops us or the risk to others means we have to act first.
Support access
When you ask for help, a member of our team may need to sign in to your site's admin to look into it. Each of these support sessions is logged, and you're emailed when one starts and when it ends.
Availability and backups
We work to keep SignalPage running and your site online, and we back every site up nightly, keeping each backup for 14 days. We can't promise the service will never be interrupted, so keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose. Export makes that easy.
Ending your account
You can stop using SignalPage at any time. To have your account and site deleted, email us. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. If we ever decide to shut SignalPage down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and time to export your content.
Your responsibilities
SignalPage is a tool for running your website, not a guarantee of results. In particular, you're responsible for:
- keeping your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose, using Export or otherwise;
- checking that your forms and their notification emails are working, and not relying on SignalPage as your only record of enquiries or orders;
- your domain name, its renewal, and its DNS settings, and any email account you connect;
- the accounts you hold with other services your site uses, such as Google, Cloudflare, or payment providers.
Limits on our liability
In short: we don't accept responsibility for lost revenue, missed enquiries, or other losses that come from your site being unavailable or not working as expected, and our total liability is capped. The details:
- SignalPage is provided as it is and as available, without promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose.
- We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses. That includes lost revenue, profits, sales, or business opportunities; enquiries, form submissions, or emails that weren't delivered or were delayed; downtime or slow performance; changes in search rankings or traffic; and lost or damaged data.
- We aren't liable for problems caused by services we don't control, including payment processors, email providers, domain registrars, DNS providers, and Google, Cloudflare, or other third-party tools you add to your site.
- Our total liability for all claims relating to SignalPage is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 US dollars.
These limits apply as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits a responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, including any rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.
Changes to these terms
If we make a significant change to these terms, we'll email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Nova Scotia.
