Accepting new clients — [Month Year]

Somewhere to think out loud.

I am [Your Name], a [BACP/UKCP/licensed] therapist in [Your City]. I work with adults on anxiety, low mood, grief and the kind of stuck that is hard to name.

What people come with

You do not need the right words to start

Most people arrive with a rough sense that something is off. Naming it properly is part of the work, not a prerequisite for it. These come up often:

  • Anxiety, worry that will not switch off
  • Low mood and loss of interest
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Burnout and work stress
  • Relationships and family patterns
  • Confidence and self-criticism
  • Life changes — separation, illness, becoming a parent
  • Trauma and difficult memories

How it works

Three steps, no commitment until you want one

01

A free 20-minute call

We talk on the phone. You say as much or as little as you like, and I answer whatever you want to ask about how I work.

02

A first session

Fifty minutes, in person or online. Nothing is decided in it — it exists so we both find out whether this feels workable.

03

Weekly, for as long as it helps

Same time each week. Some people come for six sessions, some for two years. We review it together, out loud, regularly.

The consulting room

About me

A little about how I work

I trained at [Training Institution] and have worked in [NHS / charity / private practice] for [number] years. My approach is [integrative / person-centred / CBT-informed], which in practice means I follow what matters to you rather than a fixed programme.

I am not going to nod silently for fifty minutes. Expect a conversation, and expect to be asked things nobody else asks you.

Practicalities

Sessions are weekly, at the same time. I hold a small number of reduced-fee places for students and people out of work — ask, it is not awkward.

Cancellations — 48 hours’ notice and there is no charge. Less than that and the session is charged, because the hour was held for you.

Confidentiality — what you say stays between us, with the usual legal exceptions, which I will go through with you in the first session.

Questions

Things worth knowing first

There is no fixed answer, and anyone giving you one is guessing. Some things shift in six sessions. Others take much longer. We review it together every few months so you are never in it by default.

Yes. The exceptions are narrow and legal — risk to your life or someone else’s, and certain court orders. I will explain them properly in the first session rather than leaving them in the small print.

Both work. Online suits people with unpredictable weeks; in person suits people who want the hour to be somewhere that is not home. You can switch.

Say so. Fit matters more than method, and I would rather help you find someone else than have you spend six months being polite.

Yes — [days] until [time]. They fill first, so it is worth asking early.
